Birth* circa 1706  The record of Johann Nickol's death, 19 Apr 1760, gives his age as 53 yrs., unreadable mos., placing his date of birth sometime around 1706. The records of the Evang. Church at Medard were checked for his birth record, but the entries in the church records, as contained on LDS Film #0493330, are very sporadic for the years running roughly from1698 to 1715; there are only a limited number of entries during this time. This is probably due to stressed social conditions existing at that time. As a result, the birth record of Johann Nickol has not been found. However, the record of his First Communion on Palm Sunday 1720, validates the approximate birth date given here, since it can be demonstrated that siblings of his received First Communion around their 14th. birthday.

Note*   The correct spelling of the Gravius name is relatively certain. However, the records are hard to read. The records from Maria Elisabetha's home town of Medard, seem to indicate the it may be Graffinsen, Gravinsen, Gravins, or other possibilities. Research in the current German telephone directory reveals several residents of Medard and nearby Meisenheim with the surname of Gravius, so that is the assumed correct spelling.

Due to the gap in the records between 1698 and 1715, the record trail has been broken and it can not be stated conclusively that the Hanß Nickol Gravius whose birth is recorded here is the genealogically relevant one. 
Marriage* circa 1700  The entries in the Odenbach Reformed Church records, as contained on LDS Film #0493330, are very sporadic for the years running roughly from1698 to 1715; there are only a limited number of entries during this time. This is probably due to stressed social conditions existing at that time. The record of Johann Nickol's marriage to Anna Catharina, which probably occurred during this period, has not been found.
