  1. I have changed the spelling of the last name "Mattern" from Matern as of 12-19-2000. I have found many references to the Mattern spelling and none with the single "T". I must have mis-read the source material.

There were birth records of two Johann Jacob Maurers found. The one on 13 Oct 1784 was determined to be the correct one through the information given in the following records. The record of Jacob's marriage to Philippina Schneider (Meisenheim: 29 Dec 1805) states that he was from Breitenheim. The Record of his daughter, Catharina's marriage to Julius Cöster (Odenbach: 31 Oct 1844) gives his age as 60, placing his date of birth sometime during the year prior to 31 October 1784.
