Note   In the birth records of both Anna Maria Weigold (B: 14 Jul 1752) and Philipp Peter Weigold (b: 17 Dec 1754), the father is shown as "Friedrich Weil." It is a common practice in german records to abbreviate a word by partially spelling it and then adding an "l." at the end; however, abbreviating a name is not common. It is assumed that is what has been done in these two cases and the name Weigold was abbreviated as Weil. There is no other records of a Friedrich Weil and the birth of these to children fits in nicely with the other children, so this will be the assumed case until proven otherwise. 
Note*   Johann Friedrich is named as the father of two Weigold ancesters: Johann Tobias (3) Weigold and Philipp Peter Weygold. At first it appeared that there were two differant Johann Friedrich's - one "Weigold" and the other "Weygold". However, evidance seems to indicate they are the same person: 1) Both had a wife named Maria Barbara; 2) Only one marriage record for Friedrich Weigold/ Maria Barbara could be found; 3) No children of a couple with these names were born before the time of the marriage record that was found; 4) It can be shown in other records that the same person may have his name spelled Weigold in one record and Weygold in the next (See Anna Elisabetha Weigold).

Note*   Auerbach, Hessen, Germany, According to the marriage record of his son Jacob, Heinrich was married to Elisabetha Barbara Krauss, he was a citizen of Auerbach and he was a farmer. It was also noted that he was deceased at the time of the wedding.

Heinrich's death recorded was found in the LDS microfilms of the Auerbach church records as occurring on the 17 Aug 1838. There, it is indicated that his age was 61 years, 4 months and 15 days. This type of notation is/was the German custom. This would place his date of birth as 2 Apr 1777. The actual record of the death was found in Auerbach and there the date is given as 30 Mar 77.

Johann Michael and Eva both died as babies, but the dates were unreadable on the microfilm. Anna died at an age of 11 days, and Johann Peter just short of his 31st. birthday.

Note*   It is known from Harold Weigold's booklet, THE WEIGOLD FAMILY RECORD, that John Weigold's father was Jacob Weigold. This was verified when John's birth record was found. However, in Jacob's marriage record, which has proved to be a wealth of information, Jacob is listed as Johann Jacob Weigold, with follows what appears to be the custom, that everybody seemed to use their middle name.

In his marriage record, Jacob is listed as being 27 years of age (although the records show that he was only 26 yrs. and 10 months) and that he was a master shoemaker. This indication of age helped locate his birth record recorded on 19 Aug 1821. The date of Jakob's death was supplied by Hanne Aulich, researcher in Auerbach, and has not been verified.

Note*   Johann Tobias' parents are named in his birth record as Friedrich and Maria Barbara Weigold. It appears that they are also the parents of Philipp Peter Weygold and therefore Philipp Peter and Johann Tobias (3) are brothers, although this is not certian. The uncertianty stems from the fact that Philipp Peter's name was recorded as Weygold. Philipp Peter's granddaughter, Anna Christina Mennel, and Johann Tobias' grandson, Johann Jacob Weigold were the parents of August Johann Weigold.

The year of Johann Tobias' death was noted in the margin of his birth record. This date has not been verified through comparison with the actual death record.

Note*   Philipp Peter's parents are named in his birth record as Friedrich and Maria Barbara Weygold. It appears that they are also the parents of Johann Tobias (3) Weygold and therefore Philipp Peter and Johann Tobias (3) are brothers, although this is not certian. The uncertianty stems from the fact that Johann Tobias' name was recorded as Weigold. Philipp Peter's granddaughter, Anna Christina Mennel, and Johann Tobias' grandson, Johann Jacob Weigold were the parents of August Johann Weigold.

The year of Philipp Peter's death was noted in the margin of his birth record. This date has not been verified through comparison with the actual death record.

Note   In the birth record of Philipp Peter Weigold (B: 17 Dec 1754) the father is shown as "Friedrich Weil." It is a common practice in german records to abbreviate a word by partially spelling it and then adding an "l." at the end. Although, abbreviating a name is not common, it is assumed that that is what has been done in this case and the name Weigold was abbreviated as Weil. There is no other records of a Friedrich Weil and Philipp Peter's birth fits in nicely with the other children, so this will be the assumed case until proven otherwise.
